As a therapist in private practice I regularly see families going through divorce.  I provide a variety of divorce related services including custody investigations, court ordered therapy, expert witness testimony and shared parenting education  usually referred to as “co-parenting counseling”.  After years of experience providing this service, I have developed a specific curriculum and method for shared parenting education.  What is commonly referred to as co-parenting counseling is as much education as counseling. 

 Purpose of Shared Parenting Education

Ø  Minimize, and ideally eliminate the use of lawyers and costly litigation to make parenting decisions



Ø  Reduce stress in dealing with your children’s other parent

Ø  Offer rules, tools and strategies for making decisions, resolving conflicts and solving problems

“…the willingness and ability of each parent to facilitate and encourage a close and continuing relationship between the other parent and the child”

Alaska Statute 25.24.150 (c)(6) defines the expectation for how parents will behave towards each other and clearly states that it is in the children’s best interest to do so.
